The Lord’s Work – Part 16

The true things are heavenly thing, the spiritual things.

Carnal things are not The True. They cannot be accepted as true good things. Carnal works cannot be accepted as true good works.

The bread Israel received from heaven was not the true bread from heaven.

The tabernacle that Moses built was not the true tabernacle.

The temple that Solomon built was not the true temple.

Neither was the 2nd temple that Nehemiah built. Neither was carnal Jerusalem the true Jerusalem. The building of which (Jerusalem) is the only deed that is called “a good work” in the entire OT. But it was not the true good work. It was only a good work IN FIGURE, IN SHADOW. NOT in truth.

And we can go on with identifying more examples and shadows of the true things…

Here’s one: Abraham’s circumcision was not the true circumcision.

Romans 2:28-29  For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that [THE TRUE] circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:  29  But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and [THE TRUE] circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Abraham’s circumcision was not “the true”. His was a figure, a shadow, a pattern, a SHOW.

That circumcision is not TRUE circumcision at all. Fleshly circumcision is not THE TRUE, and thus it is identified accordingly. It was not a TRUE good work.

Here’s another: Noah’s baptism, John’s Baptism, Jesus’s carnal baptism, even our fleshly baptism today, is not the true baptism.

1 Peter 3:21  The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Baptism of the flesh is a figure of the true. TRUE baptism is not of the flesh. True baptism cannot be done with hands. And true good works, cannot be done with men’s hands.

Baptism, circumcision, the water out of a rock, the manna from heaven, And if these carnal things aren’t true good things, what carnal things are?? … None are!

The building of the holy temple, the work of the altar, the giving of the sacrifices, etc. They are not the true good things.

If these are not the true good works, then what are?

Hebrews 8:5  Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, …

If being a minister of God’s temple is not true good, then what carnal work/vocation is?

These sacrifices were figures, and all good things MADE BY HANDS are figures. All things done to be seen of men are figures! All carnal things are figures!

Hebrews 9:6-10  Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.  7  But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:  8  The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:  9  Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;  10  Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.

The tabernacle, and the things in it, and the services of it, the law itself, was a temporary figure which stood ONLY in CARNAL ordinances… until the time of reformation.

There was a time when he imposed on them the figures of the true. There was a time when those carnal figures were acceptable. Were they the true? No. Were they true good works? No. Did they bring forth good fruit? No.

The services of God and the things that were available to them are not available to us today. They have been done away. And a more perfect law and sacrifice and temple have been given.

These things that are available to us today, spiritually, are the true things that they sought after. That they desired to hear of. That they prophesied of.

The OT saints could not do THE TRUE: true good works. Their righteousnesses were figures, shadows. Because their works were carnal, their works were a figure, acceptable only for a time then present.

Just like this whole carnal world, a figure imposed on us for the time now present.

Hebrews 9:9  Which was a figure for the time then present, …

Man’s good works are a figure. For a time, under the law (first covenant established with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), the figures were accepted. Because that is all that man could do. But now, the true tabernacle is opened, and the way in is made manifest. Now that the true is available, the carnal shadow is no longer acceptable.

All man’s works in the flesh are figures. Why? Because Adam himself is a figure of Christ.

Romans 5:14  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Adam himself is a figure of Christ. IS, not was. If the first man Adam himself, as perfect as he was made, and still after he fell under sin IS a figure, and we are children of Adam, then the whole race of mankind, are just figures of a true man. Figures of a perfect man. Figures of Christ: Figures of a real man. We are figures of true men. But we are not true men… we are spies.

Acts 5:15  Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

We are shadows of our true selves. We are figures. Projections. There may be some power in the shadow, but the shadow is imperfect, less than full-dimensional. And a shadow can deceive!!

Naturally, we are figures. We, as figures, cannot do truth.

John 3:21  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
