The Keepers of the Law – Part 9

Isaiah 56:11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

If you don’t or can’t UNDERSTAND you cannot get saved.

Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

NT

Matthew 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias (Isaiah 6:10), which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Then here is what follows…

Matthew 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower

Matthew 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

Neither the stony nor the thorny is said to UNDERSTAND!

Matthew 13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Mark 4:14 The sower soweth the word

Mark 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

V15 way side, v16 stony, v18 thorny … NONE of them are described as “understanding”

Mark 4:20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

You can’t bring forth fruit unless you UNDERSTAND. Refer back to…

Mark 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Matthew 13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit

Luke 8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

Luk 8:10  And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand

V5 way side, v6 rock/stony, v7 thorny … NONE of them are described as “understanding”

Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

“keep” + “understand” 7 times in The Book

1Chronicles 22:12 Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel,

that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.

Psalms 119:100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

Proverb 2:11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

Proverbs 19:8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: [is equivalent to] he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

Repeated in ACTS…

Acts 28:26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

“with their heart”??????????? Ever heard that before?????

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

You can’t believe “unto righteousness” if you don’t understand that righteousness is what you are believing unto!!!

You can’t TRULY “believe with your heart” if you don’t TRULY UNDERSTAND!!!

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain [KEEP!] God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

v29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Stay with me here…

v31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

2Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; (understanding is mandatory in order to get saved)

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

You can’t BE CONVERTED until you UNDERSTAND.

You can’t UNDERSTAND without REPENTING.

You can’t truly REPENT unless you REPENT FROM DEAD WORKS.

Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
