The Keepers of the Law – Part 18

Act 15:23  And they wrote letters by them after this manner; …24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment: …

Acts 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; 29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.  (not ye will keep your salvation, but you will “do well”!)

This debate was SETTLED LOOOOONG ago.

Acts 15 is ASTOUNDING to debunk those that say Christians must keep the law.

Galatians is AWESOME to understand salvation without the law.

Hebrews 7-10 is CRAZY GOOD.

Romans 3 & 10 & Romans 7, all written by Paul, MAY BE even BETTER…

Heretick threw up Romans 7:1. Baaaad place to start.  Why? Well, glad you asked, I’ll show you. SOUNDS good for him at first, but doesn’t end well for him at all…

Romans 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law[“torah”, he was quick to point out],) how that the law [“torah”, again, quick to point out] hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

I reponded with…

Romans 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

The point is the law only has power as long as we are ALIVE. Once we are DEAD, the law no longer has power.

Then with…

Romans 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress:

but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

Again, death annuls the law.

But I responded with this, anyway, just for the sake of anyone reading it. (*Note-I never heard from him again)…

Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Hence, humans are DEAD TO THE LAW once they get saved. We are no longer adulterers or murderers or thieves or anything else. Not matter what our flesh does. How do we know?

Then I (and God and Paul) followed with…

Romans 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins (how does humanity know sin?), which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death (evil fruit!)

Romans 3:20 …for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Romans 4:15 …where no law is, there is no transgression [sin].

Roman 4:18 Who against hope believed..19 And being not weak in faith,[right here, God defines faith as a level of belief. What does it mean to “doubt”, to have “unbelief”?]  he considered not [get this – what did Abraham NOT CONSIDER a part of this promise?] his own body now dead [Abraham didn’t consider his own BODY to be a part of this promise. He knew his “body” was “NOW DEAD”! Real Christians know the same thing. That OUR BODY IS NOW DEAD “TO THE LAW”. If not, and you “consider” your “own body”still alive and part of the promise of salvation, then you are “WEAK IN FAITH” and “in UNBELIEF”.], when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief;[had he considered that his own dead body was part of this promise, he would have been considered as DOUBTED!]  but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And therefore[and ONLY therefore]  it was imputed to him for righteousness. 4 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 4 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. [If simple belief is enough, GRACE WITHOUT WORKS, then (and only then) righteousness is imputed to the believer. If there is DOUBT, defined by The Bible as considering THAT YOUR OWN BODY IS DEAD, then there is no grace and righteousness is not imputed].

Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

The saved WERE in the FLESH. The lost are still in the flesh.

The saved are no longer flesh. The saved ARE in the SPIRIT.

The Apostle Paul is STILL writing this…

Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Romans 7:15 For that    1 which I do –  I allow not:  2  for what I would, – that do I not;   3  but what I hate, – that do I.

Did you get that? The great Apostle Paul, writer of most of the NT. The things he HATES – he does those things!!

Think about what we hate? What do YOU hate? Homosexuality? Idol worship? Adultery? Denying Jesus?

Gotta understand “hate” here. I HATE Lima Beans. Easy. I don’t eat them. I HATE looking at other women besides my wife. Hard. My flesh wants to look. Eye candy. — This is how to understand Paul. Flesh vs Spirit.

What would the “keepers of the law” think of a guy that claimed to be saved but was doing the things THEY hate?

This is exactly what they would think of the Apostle Paul. Lost!!!

Romans 7:16 If then I do that which I would not (and he clearly says he does), I consent unto the law that it is good. (and I am not!!)

Romans 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

I don’t do it. Even if my flesh does the things it HATES, it isn’t me doing it. It is SIN that is in my flesh. I can’t help it. Nobody can.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not

We need to READ THIS. READ IT. Understand. This is Paul!

We teach that at salvation the FLESH is unchanged. This is true.
