The Keepers of the Law – Part 15
So, after all of that Bible EVIDENCE, here is the definition of “in vain”…
What do acts/works produce? WORKS PRODUCE FRUIT!
ACTS/WORK DONE “IN VAIN”=THE ACT/WORK WILL NOT PRODUCE GOOD FRUIT!!
The Act/Work will instead produce EVIL FRUIT!
The definition even fits this…
Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
FRUIT OF THE EARTH?
Mark 4:26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; 27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up (this would be the fruit!), he knoweth not how.
Mark 4:28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. 29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
The FRUIT of the Earth is humanity. It is either GOOD FRUIT or EVIL FRUIT. No in-between. God is BINARY!!
Joel 3:11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. 12 Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. 13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
Matthew 13:24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them (they must be similar in appearance, thus “grow together”). 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
…
Matthew 13:37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
James 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
And thus the definition fits these…
I am here stop 14
Job 21:34 How then comfort ye me in vain, (why???) seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
Proverbs 12:17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
2Peter 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; …17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
Jude 1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; 13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
Proverbs 25:14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
2Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
It is ALL about the same thing.
Truth produces GOOD FRUIT. Falsehood produces EVIL FRUIT. Even the tiniest falsehood.
Hosea 10:4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
1Corinthians 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
UNLEAVENED is a very important Bible principle for the sacrifice to be acceptable…
Exodus34:25 Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
Exodus 12:8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exodus 12:15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. … 17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. … 19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses (
1Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
): for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. 20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.
That’s why…
Galatians 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Any falsehood/leaven and the GIFT produces EVIL/DEAD FRUIT.
This makes the covenant “in vain”. This is THE WORDS OF OUR MOUTH – FRUIT!
Job 35:16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
Proverbs 12:11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
“vain” 112 times – just a few examples will show the consistency here…
1Samuel 12:21 And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
Jeremiah 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain (evil fruit!): they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things (what things? “vain words”!! which make you evil fruit!) cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
“vanity/vanities” 99 times “something that produces evil fruit”.
Job 35:13 Surely God will not hear vanity (that which produces evil fruit), neither will the Almighty regard it.
Psalms 10:7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity (that which produces evil fruit).
Psalms 39:5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity (that which produces evil fruit). Selah.
Psalms 39:11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity (that which produces evil fruit). Selah.
Psalms 144:4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away (that which produces evil fruit).
Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity (that which produces evil fruit) shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
Proverbs 21:6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity (that which produces evil fruit) tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
Ecclesiastes “vanity/vanite” 37 times!
Way more than any other book. Closest is 15 times in Psalms and there are 150 Psalms! Eccl. only has 12 chapters!
Eccl 1:2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
Eccl 1:14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity (all works produce evil fruit!!) and vexation of spirit.
Eccl 2:1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity (produces evil fruit).
Eccl 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity (evil fruit) and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit (good fruit) under the sun.
They ALL fit the definition and pattern. Evil Fruit.
Here is the final one in Ecclesiastes…
Eccl 12:8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity (all produces evil fruit).
Why would “the preacher”, the wisest man ever (besides Jesus) say this in the OT?
What could produce “good fruit” before Jesus’ GIFT to mankind? Ummmmmm, Nothing under the sun!!!
A few more examples from the remaining books, again, they ALL fit the definition and the pattern…
Isaiah 41:29 Behold, they are all vanity (evil fruit); their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.
Jeremiah 10:15 They are vanity (evil fruit), and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
Ezekiel 13:8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity (evil fruit), and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD.
Hosea 12:11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity (evil fruit): they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
Jonah 2:8 They that observe lying vanities (evil fruit) forsake their own mercy.
Habakkuk 2:13 Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity (evil fruit)?
Zechariah 10:2 For the idols have spoken vanity (evil fruit), and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.
NT for good measure
2Peter 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity (words producing evil fruit), they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
Coming around full-circle, we come back to these…
1Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
One did the act/work of believing – but IT DID NOT PRODUCE GOOD FRUIT! It produced EVIL FRUIT!
2Corinthians 6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
One did the act/work of receiving grace – but IT DID NOT PRODUCE GOOD FRUIT!! It produced EVIL FRUIT!
Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits (not “works”). Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
It is not if their works produce FRUIT. They do. What matters is what KIND OF FRUIT their works produce.
v17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
v18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
They produce FRUIT, but they produce EVIL FRUIT!
v19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
v20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
So, then He jumps straight into the judgment. Why? Because that’s what He just said. You will be judged by your FRUIT!!!
Is it GOOD FRUIT? Or is it EVIL FRUIT?
v21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Their WORKS – produced EVIL (DEAD) FRUIT.
It even fits here.
Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Deuteronomy 5:11 hou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
How? Why?
Proverbs 18:20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
Isaiah 57:19 I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.
Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Your LIPS CREATE FRUIT!!! If you speak the Lord’s name IN VAIN, then it creates EVIL fruit! (not good fruit!)
This is because the words lack the knowledge and understanding, without falsehood, necessary to produce GOOD FRUIT!!!!
Job 21:34 How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
Job 35:16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
